A few things to do in Cape Town on your birthday

A few things to do in Cape Town on your birthday

Celebrating birthdays is one of the most exciting occasion in the year for me. Not only my birthday, anyone’s birthday. I love making a fuss, my sister says I like to be extra, but whats wrong with that? Everyone deserves at least one day to feel special and to celebrate all the crazy things that you have gotten through over past year.

Every year my mother asks me what I would like to eat on my birthday. Making food is definitely her love language and also the reason that my love handle struggle is real. She definitely spoils us rotten to this day and I appreciate all the effort she makes. I don’t think i will ever live up to her level of extra. This year I have requested only a peppermint tart to go with the games night we have planned. If you don’t know me, the way to my heart is to challenge me to a board game. My competitive soul will love you forever.

In light of my birthday celebration I want to share with you my ideal list of things to do on your birthday, but read it as “Ideal things to do on Nadine’s birthday“. The list is ordered from the first to the last thing i would do if the day was much longer that 24 hours. I’ve also added some tips or “fun facts”.

1 . Breakfast at The big box cafe.

Guys! This is a board game cafe! In Cape Town. They have a range of board games you can enjoy while having breakfast or lunch. Their  games are imported from Europe as well as some that are made locally. I can’t think of a better way to start the day off.

Fun fact: They also sell games in case you are in need of a gift.

2 . An animal encounter

If you or your kids are an animal lover then this is a must do. There are a few options and the proceeds from the encounters go towards looking after the animals which is always a bonus. Check out The Cheetah outreach in Strand, they offer encounter experiences with cheetah cubs and adults, bat-eared fox, meerkats and caracal’s. If you head to them you can always pitstop on strand beach after, its a stone throw away.

Fun fact: The entertainer offers two for one on the ticket price and encounter tickers

3 . Get a massage

There are few things that beat a relaxing Swedish massage to take away all the stress of the past year. I enjoy going with a partner or a friend to share the experience. Remember to always take the mandatory gown selfie!

Fun fact: Sorbet offers an awesome birthday deal

4. Laser tag or ten pin bowling at Grandwest

Another activity that tickles my competitive fancy. Both are great family activities or something you can do with a few friends.

Fun fact: Grandwest has a kids corner creche that can look after your kids 10 and under.

5. Lunch at your favorite restaurant

I have done this for the past three years with a few friends. I love it, to sit and chat and laugh over good food. We have gone to turn ‘n tender religiously every year since they opened in somerset west.

Fun fact: T’nT has a special lunch menu that you can order this time of year

6. Wine tasting

Another activity where we are spoiled for choice in the Western Cape. Relaxing on one of the many wine farms and do a wine tasting. One of my favorites is the tasting at Lourensford wine estate in Somerset West.

Fun fact: The entertainer has two for one at Lourensford and many other wine farms

7. Taking a cable car up table mountain

Spending some time exploring our beautiful city is always a good idea. The five minute ride to the top of one of Table mountain for a view that will take your breathe away is a great way to wind down from the hustle and bustle of a normal day.

8. See a comedy show

My personal favourite at the moment is Cape Town Comedy club. They say laughter is the best medicine. What could be better than allowing yourself to be entertained and to laugh on your birthday. Cape town comedy club is open Wednesday to Sunday and has a variety of local and international acts on their stage.

Fun fact: Sunday is half price and The entertainer has two for one deals on tickets and main meal items.

There you have it, in an ideal world where a birthday can be celebrated for a full week, this is what i would get up to.

Let me know in the comments below what you love getting up to on your birthday. I would love to add more things to this list
