Cape Town’s First LEGO certified store opens in Canal Walk

LEGO needs no introduction. It’s been part of our lives for years. It’s a household brand and can easily be found in most South African homes.

It’s only makes sense that LEGO opens its doors in one of the country’s most well known and successful shopping centers.

The LEGO certified store officially opens on 28 September and will be having major spot prizes, in store specials and gift with purchase offers. You don’t want to miss it!

On the 26 September the LEGO certified store was launched to the media and we got to experience first hand what a dedicated LEGO store was all about. The shelves are lined with boxes of all our favourites, starting with Duplo and working all the way around to Harry Potter and Star Wars sets. It was amazing to see all the various options for different age groups.

The store has staff that are well informed and able to answer all questions and point you in the right direction. Jayme took full advantage of this and asked them to show him ever set he’s ever dreamed of.

When we arrived at the event we enjoyed LEGO bottled water, cupcakes and LEGO cookies to get us into the spirit.

Jaymes highlight was getting to spend time at the dedicated Build a minifigure station where he was able to build and rebuild a mini figure of himself. All the kids loved this.

Some other highlights in the store include the pick a brick wall which is a custom-built fixture with round canisters, each filled with an assortment of LEGO bricks and elements. It catches your eye the minute you enter the store. There is a special build area which encourages LEGO fans young and old to sit and unleash their imaginations. I measure Jayme against a LEGO themed wall ruler and he enjoyed touching a giant police officer that spoke when you touched his hand or rubbed his back.

On one side of the store is an augmented reality screen which scans the box and shows you the contents of the box in 3D so you know exact what you are purchasing and the possibilities available.

We really loved that the store had a truly local Cape Town feel which they managed to pull off by the specially built 3D model Spirit of Bo-Kaap which stands in a window display as well as a locally themed Cape Town mosaic.

Be sure to pop in at the store opening for double loyalty points and a first look at the LEGO mini-figure series 19 which will be exclusive to the store all weekend. Thank you for having us LEGO, we love the new store and can’t wait to play with our new LEGO sets
